Guild History
In 2E 578 an arcane explosion of energy in the Imperial City set off mystical aftershocks that swept across Nirn. With this the abominations known as Daedra emerged from Oblivion in greater numbers than ever before. This was the doing of Molag Bal, Daedric Prince of domination and enslavement. His Dark Anchors, vortexes of evil magic, were unleashed, weakening the barrier between Nirn and Oblivion.
At first, the Daggerfall Covenant struggled to defend themselves against the Daedra and the anchors. Many lives were lost in the hopeless attempt to survive the wrath of the Daedric Prince. Then, with a final attempt to drive back the dark forces, The Vigil was born. An elite group of the Covenant's finest soldiers who were tasked with defending Covenant territory from the Daedra and to destroy the Dark Anchors. Soon, things began to look better for the covenant as The Vigil successfully drove back the Daedra. They became known as the greatest Daedra hunters and most elite soldiers that the Covenant had to offer. Although The Vigil is able to drive back the Daedra, the attacks against the Covenant are endless. The Vigil's job never ends, they must be forever vigilant, fighting the Daedra whenever they can, hoping that the Covenant will survive another day.
During 2E 582 the war between the factions of the Daggerfall Covenant, Ebonhart Pact, and Aldmeri Dominion rages. The Covenant is strong but their resources are spread thin. King Emeric, leader of the Covenant calls upon the help of the The Vigil. For four years The Vigil has been fighting their own war, an endless war against the Daedra. Now King Emeric asks The Vigil to aid in the war for the Ruby Throne. Although they are hesitant to divert their focus from the Daedra, they know it is their duty as soldiers of the Covenant to serve in whatever way they can. Now The Vigil aids in the war effort by capturing key tactical positions for the Covenant while they also continue their own war against Molag Bal and the Daedra.

Ranks
The Vigil actually has two types of ranking systems. One for combative members, those who wish to participate in missions that involve combat, and craftsman's ranks, for those who would rather roleplay and contribute to the guild by focusing on professions and their crafting skills. Members can have both combative and craftsman's ranks.
Combative Ranks
The Vigil is a small but elite order. Although there are not many ranks within the guild, advancing is not easy. Advancement in ranked is earned, not given. One may advance in rank by completing tasks, showing capability during missions, and contributing and showing commitment to the guild. The ranks within the guild are listed below:
- Recruit- The lowest rank. This is for aspiring applicants who still qualify for membership after other parts of the application process. Recruits will go through a two week trial period where they will be evaluated based on their interaction with members, performance, and participation within the community.
- Trooper- These are the full members of The Vigil. These members will learn from the other members of their squads as they complete missions with them.
- Journeyman- The backbone of the guild and our forces. These members are active within the community and continue to contribute to the guild. Their skills and other qualities have earned them this rank. They are to be respected by all members.
- Sergeant- The veterans of our guild. These members are the exemplar members of this guild. They are active, contribute to the guild, and have good communication skills. These members also act as field officers in their squads. They are second in command and help lead their squads to complete their missions. In order to become a Sergeant, a member must apply for this position.
- Lieutenant- The officers of The Vigil. These members will lead their squads and our guild to victory. These members have a direct say in guild matters. This is the highest rank that a member can achieve and those who have obtained it, earned it. Orders from these members are expected to be followed. In order to become a Lieutenant, a member must apply for this position.
- Commander- The Leader of The Vigil. The Commander's word is law. His orders should be followed to the letter. The Commander will spearhead guild events and console to his Lieutenants when important decisions must be made.
Craftsman's Ranks
The Vigil also has place for members who would rather roleplay and focus on crafting skills and careers. There is four ranks for each crafting skill and career. Any member can have a combative rank as well as a craftsman's rank. Each craftsman's rank is equal to a combative rank. All members may have both a combative rank and a craftsman's rank. However, the "Master" craftsman rank is reserved for members who do not participate in combat with the guild under normal circumstances, one must also have fully mastered the skill and career of the "Master" position they have applied for. The three ranks are as follow:
- Recruit- All members start out as recruits, even those who just wish to act as craftsmen for the guild. This is done to ensure that all our members are of the highest caliber. Recruit Craftsman will go through the same two week trial period as combative recruits. These recruits will be based on their character, dedication to their skill and in game career, contributions to the guild, and activeness within the community.
- Apprentice- The aspiring craftsmen. These members have shown that they are willing to work hard to help the guild. However they still have much to prove and need to continue to work in order to prove themselves to the rest of the guilds. Apprentices are equal to Troopers when rank is questioned.
- Craftsman- The core of our craftsmen. These members have proven themselves to the guild that they are dedicated to our community and will strive to help achieve our goals. They are experts of their careers and the crafting skills they have invested their time in. They are to be respected as they provide the guild the edge we need to strive for our girls. Craftsmen are equal to Journeymen when rank is questioned.
- Master- The the master of their craft. Masters provide the guild with their unmatched skill and resources. They are in charge of their craft's division and act as officers within the guild. Masters are equal to Lieutenants when rank is questioned.
